Repairing the sunroof gasket on a 2011 Honda Pilot

The gasket completely twisted up last time we opened the sunroof. Water had gotten under the gasket and the rust caused it to pop out of its seal. The sunroof began leaking when it rained.

Before I went and bought a new gasket it looked to me like this was an easy repair. I removed the four screws holding the sunroof in and brought it into the garage. I brushed off all the rust bubbles then made sure that the gasket would slip back into the channel and lay flat. I needed to use a flat headed screwdriver to help push the gasket into the channel.

I pulled the gasket back out and filled the channel with some silicone sealant before pressing the gasket back in neatly all the way along the back. I then reinstalled the sunroof.

The experiment begins

EDIT: 2023-01: Experiment an overall failure despite initial partial success. One cat did accept the change and used the seat even once it was on the toilet. The second cat unfortunately wanted nothing to do with the seat and started going to the bathroom on the floor. I tried to keep up with it, but despite my best efforts the bathroom quickly became a biohazard area. I had hoped the first cat would be a good example for the second butt instead it worked in reverse. Once second cat went on the ground the first cat decided that must be ok too and I’d often come home from work to a disgusting mess. I had to call the whole thing off. I think training a cat to use the toilet would work great if you started with kittens and they didn’t know any different, but older cats can be very stubborn.

Cranston Bones Update

Back in 2006 I had an exciting lunch break when I discovered bones washed out from under route 37. Since then the story occasionally pops back up in the news. Below are two more recent articles about them.

First article is about a woman looking for a famous relative.

This second link explains how they moved some of the graves that were washed out in 2009.
